In My Kitchen – September

Where did last month go? It felt to me like it just flew by and it’s already time for a new In My Kitchen post. If you would like to join in the monthly tour of ‘In My Kitchen’ and to see what others have in their kitchens, pop over to Celia’s blog, Fig Jam and Lime Cordial for all of the info.

spicy chips

In my kitchen are some super spicy chips. Our friend got us onto these Blair’s Death Rain chips (more details here) They come in super spicy flavours and they are absolutely delicious. They are indeed very hot though, so eat with caution. We picked ours up from T and E Asian Grocer at Fyshwick Markets, which also specialises in American groceries.

Hainan Chilli Sauce

In my kitchen are more Asian condiments. I checked out the Asian grocer at Cooleman Court, which is right near my work. It certainly wasn’t the best one that I’ve been to, but they did have some goodies which I couldn’t pass up. I got this Hainan Chilli Sauce as I have been meaning to make chicken rice again.

homemade pizza

(Camera phone pic via Instagram)

In my kitchen was homemade pepperoni pizza. It was Key’s birthday last month. All he wanted for dinner was homemade pizza and he even made it himself. That makes me sound like a bad girlfriend, but I swear, he really enjoys making pizza.

In My Kitchen September

In my kitchen are some new sauces to try. We celebrated Key’s birthday with his family on the weekend after his birthday. They bought him some awesome gifts, including these The Chilli Factory sauces. So far we’ve tried the honey mustard  as a salad dressing and it is delicious. I’m looking forward to trying the satay and sweet chilli sauce as well.

Peanut Butter Tim Tams

In my kitchen are some disappointing new Tim Tams. It was bound to happen. As a massive peanut butter lover, of course I bought these. I was a bit disappointed though, they didn’t have that peanut butter punch that I was hoping for. Probably because they are only peanut butter ‘flavour.’ What does peanut butter ‘flavour’ even mean. Why not just use actual peanut butter?

food processor

In my kitchen is our new all-in-one processor with slicing blades, stick blender and mashing attachments. My faithful orange mini processor finally died. It faithfully appeared on the blog in recipes like my Banh Mi (recipe here), Tomato Bruschetta with Whipped feta (found here) and my Caramelised Onion Dip (here) The orange old faithful lasted well and even went to Singapore and back with us, but using this new fancier version is very satisfying. I’m loving the slicing attachments for lazy chopping and although I was dubious of the mashing attachment at first, Key made the best mash with it the other night, so I’ve even been won over by that. We bought this ourselves, no sponsoring here, we are just very happy with our purchase :)

Chobani Coconut Yoghurt

In my kitchen is a new (to me at least) Chobani yogurt flavour. I am absolutely obsessed with these yogurts and I love all of the flavours, especially the raspberry and the apple & cinnamon one. I tried this coconut one this month and loved it too, but I’ve only been able to find it in the sachets, while I prefer the individual tubs as they are so easy to take to and eat at work as an 11am snack :)

In my kitchen is some Haigh’s chocolates. I adore Haigh’s so I made sure I got Key to pick me up some when he was in Melbourne for work. One of these packs went to Mrs. No Vowels as a birthday prezzie.

Cobram Estate Olive Oil

In my kitchen is this Première Cobram Estate extra virgin olive oil, which I bought on a whim while getting groceries. It’s very grassy and we are enjoying it in salad dressings.

autolyse sourdough

In my kitchen is a sourdough loaf from Autolyse bakery in Braddon, although, we picked it up from one of the grocers at Fyshwick markets. We had slices of this for lunch with ripe tomatoes and basil, but I must admit, I devoured slices of it after lunch with butter, honey and salt and it was especially good served like that. It’s easily the best bread that I’ve had in a long time and I will be buying it again.

crunchy chicken

In my kitchen are some crispy chicken tenderloins. I made this simple crumbed chicken with panko, ground chipotle and dried oregano and we devoured these with a salad for dinner the other night. Yum!

Thanks for reading my In My Kitchen post and don’t forget to head over to Celia’s blog to see what is in everyone else’s kitchen this month.

Hi! I’m Taryn. The Wooden Spoons is a food blog and collection of wooden spoons, recipes and stories. I’m a Canberra fan-girl with a passion for all things food. I love South East Asian food, fusion food done well and slow cooked anything. I don’t get quinoa, have a mild phobia of milk touching my skin and custard from a package freaks me out. Thanks for joining me on my cooking and food adventures.

How good is chicken schnitzel and salad! We eat that all the time in summer. I’m loving the labels on The Chilli Factory jars – using Australian wildlife is something I’ve never seen before. I’m also having a chuckle with my husband about the ‘hot’ factor (WTF) on the potato chip packet – quite amusing! Thank you for a look IMK

So many goodies in your kitchen, Taryn. Love the Autolyse bread, although sometimes it’s almost a tooth cracker! Cobram Estate is one of my favourites… delicious with the bread!

    • Taryn Reply

Yes I know what you mean about the bread Lizzy, too much and your mouth knows about it haha. I’m willing to take the pain though :)

Wow, I’ll have what she’s having! Love Haigh’s, Cobram Estate, Chobani, AND peanut butter and chocolate, but I agree, why would you not use real peanut butter?? My grandmother loved peanut butter and chocolate so I’m guessing it is an inherited tendency! Thanks for the tour.
